Précis
A highly-publicized legal dispute erupted when a rare collection of fourteen Roman silver artifacts from the fourth or fifth century A.D. was brought to sale at Sotheby’s in New York in 1990. In the 1970s, the collection, believed to have belonged to a Roman general named Sevso, was unearthed somewhere within the borders of the Roman Empire, as it existed in the fourth century A.D. In New York state court, the governments of Lebanon, Yugoslavia, Croatia and Hungary each claimed the "Sevso Treasure" . . . .
