Précis

This important case involving the purchase in the U.S. by a Swiss art dealer, Jeanneret, of a Matisse painting that was taken out of Italy by its owners without an export license raised the issue of whether and how to apply foreign export regulations to sales of art in the United States and to what degree violation of export regulations affect transfer of title.
